(re) generation (2013)
HD Video
9:04 min. loop

(re)generation is a visual metaphor for the cognitive process and the reconstitutive nature of memory. The image used in this work is the last photograph taken of my grandfather before he died of cancer in 2008. This video is a meditation on the oscillating, ever-malleable manner in which we evoke personal memories - sometimes with great clarity, other times with intense ambiguity, and other times still shrouded almost entirely in obscurity. Sometimes a singular memory shifts, transforming into or out of lucidity. The two images in (re)generation that perpetually construct and deconstruct my grandfather’s likeness constitute a visual analog for this process - an endless ebb and flow of metamorphosis.
